Fear of the unknown in DevOps – Brain dump of lessons from ASG’s Elastic Journey
***NOTE*** We've moved the start time to 6:30pm!!
You know how technology often solves one problem…. But then creates new entirely unexpected problems?
Emerging platforms like the Elastic Stack can help manage modern complex IT environments but the this law of unintended consequences definitely applies here.
More and more powerful open source tools are becoming common place in the enterprise and you can integrate them, create Frankenstein monster solutions with them.
But creating a pipeline from python, to Ansible, to Kubernetes, to Elastic and back can mutate your data in freakish ways, create unexpected output errors that can destroy performance or take applications off line.
Of course a CI/CD pipeline helps catch problems quickly, but mistakes still get through to production despite best efforts in dev/test. And either way someone still has to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it.
Dusty Smith and Anthony Sayre of Advanced Systems Group will talk about their journey and hard-earned knowledge on how to avoid a lot of frustrating time-wasting problems in the first place.
Will include examples of what we figured out to do (and not to do) when integrating Elastic Stack with other applications in your environment.
Also a demo on our integration of elastic and ansible.
Other topics: culture of courage, exploration… there is no manual!
