Lightning Talks - JS array methods, React Hooks

RSVP ON MEETUP

Details

Talk 1 (20 minutes):

What To Do When You Don't Care About Finding Items In An Array - Mike Frazier

Prior to the ES2015 update, there were a few ways of finding the item of interest in an array: indexOf, lastIndexOf, and, maybe, filter. Since the update, there have been several more methods added to the Array prototype to help with finding items. In this talk, we'll cover the multiple ways to search and find an item in an array, as well as the limitations each method has.

Mike Frazier is a Software Engineer at Quizlet, Hack Reactor Remote grad, science teacher, skateboarder, and (per-Michael Herman) a rad dude.

Talk 2 (20 minutes): Intro to React Hooks - Austin Johnston

In this talk, Austin will provide a rundown of React's new Hooks API. There will be a brief overview of why Hooks are being implemented, basic examples on how the new Hooks are used, and finally the rules surrounding Hooks. To tie it all together, there will also be a short demo on using custom Hooks.

Austin Johnston is a freelance Web Developer from the only place in the world crocodiles and alligators mingle, Florida. JavaScript is his main act, with React and Node for the stack. He doesn’t like mountain biking or rock climbing in the winter, and could kill for a waffle right now, but will settle for french toast.

Information about Node.js

This is a group for anyone who is currently using or interested in knowing more about Node.js and JavaScript. A great place to meet, interact, and learn with other developers, designers, managers, and like-minded individuals. Come and share your knowledge, applications, roadbloacks, and get feedback from others. We'll organize regularly scheduled meetings that will focus on Node.js and many of the associated technologies.

About Node.js: Node.js is a platform built on Chrome's JavaScript V8 run time for easily building fast, scalable network applications. Node.js uses and event-driven, non-blocking I/O model that makes it lightweight and efficient, perfect for data-intensive real-time applications that run across distributed devices.
