Matt Sprague is coming out to talk about using C/C++ libraries with Node.js.
Bindings for native libraries form the backbone of the Node.js runtime as well as the primary mechanism for extending the platform. This talk will examine how such bindings are created, the do's and do not's of adapter layers, and how data is passed between native code and the Node runtime. We'll be discussing the use of tools such as gyp and SWIG and looking at an example of how to leverage those tools to reuse C libraries within Node.
A former chemist turned freelance programmer and Linux enthusiast, Matt Sprague has made numerous contributions to open source projects. His cheminformatics/drug discovery software is employed by a number of universities, large pharmaceutical companies and the National Institute of Health.
