AN ENGINEER'S GUIDE TO STARTING UP

Add to your DSW Schedule

Speaker: Skylar Lowery

Starting a tech company is a huge, crazy, super hard, fun and rewarding endeavor. However, if coding were all it took, we'd all have booming startups.

This talk gives insight into my perspective of starting a tech company as an engineer turned entrepreneur. I'll share skills that I naturally had as an engineer that were super helpful, and those that weren't helpful at all. I'll also talk about some of the things I did in preparation for this endeavor that were incredibly valuable. There are things that I had to learn, things that I had to get better at, and things that I had to let go of to find success in the craziness that is startup life.

After this talk, you should have a better idea of what to expect when starting a tech company (especially as an engineer), some of the things you might want to get better at, and some things that you should familiarize yourself with and expect so that you can become your best (co-)founding self.
